NEWCOMERS' INFORMATION

Welcome! We are very happy that you are considering visiting our beautiful, friendly church.

When you enter the church, you will receive a worship service program, which describes the flow of the service. You can read it before the service actually begins. If you are unfamiliar with our service and have any questions, please feel free to ask for assistance from an usher or anyone sitting near you. We want you to feel at ease!

The usual tradition in the Episcopal church is that we kneel (if able) to pray, and we stand (if able) to praise, proclaim, or sing hymns. If you are unable to kneel (or stand), just remain seated.

HOLY EUCHARIST and BLESSING

All baptized Christians are invited to participate in the Holy Eucharist (also called Holy Communion). You do not have to be a member of the Episcopal Church in order to receive Holy Communion.

If you have been baptized, come forward with other worshippers when Father Ken offers Holy Communion, and kneel -- or stand -- at the foot of the Chancel (where the choir sits). Place one hand over the other and receive the bread (wafer) in your open palm; then immediately lift it to your mouth and eat it. When offered the wine, take the chalice by the base and guide it to your lips. If you prefer, leave the wafer in your open palm, and Father Ken will dip the wafer into the wine and place it in your mouth.

Likewise, if you have not been baptized, you can come forward to receive a Blessing when Father Ken offers Holy Communion. Just cross your arms on your chest as a sign that you would like to receive a Blessing instead of Holy Communion

If you have children, be sure to check our Christian Education page and our Christian Ministries page to see what St. John's has to offer your entire family.

If you have any questions, call our office during the week (the telephone number is at the top of this page).
