CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT ST. JOHN'S
- St. John's offers a variety of regular Sunday School classes and
activities for children of all ages, in addition to our adult study
groups. Our dedicated teachers lead the
children through lessons, craft activities, and interactive
discussions as they explore a new theme each week.
-
- Children are invited to discover something wonderful at St.
John's. It's a place to grow in the love of God through meaningful
experiences, fellowship, and fun.
- We offer a warm and accepting
environment where faith is developed through worship, experience,
service, and song. A variety of engaging programs enables our
youngest members to realize their essential roles in our Christian
community.
- SUNDAY SCHOOL
Our church school program operates
each Sunday, mid-September through mid-June, concurrently with the 2nd
worship service.
-
- All Sunday school classes begin at 10:30 on Sunday mornings. Like a worship service, each
Sunday school session includes time for gathering, praising God, and giving thanks in
His name. Then, the children join
their parents in church for Holy Communion.
-
Pre-K to 2nd Grade (GODLY PLAY Program)
We are getting excellent feedback
on our new preschool Sunday School Program, called Godly
Play (GP). Godly Play encourages children to use
their natural love of play and imagination to explore our
Christian Faith through story and play. Each session of Godly
Play is structured on the pattern of the Eucharist and follows
the Church Year. Seven Sunday School teachers have already been
trained in the use of GP by a licensed Diocesan Godly
Play Trainer.
-
3rd to 5th Grade
Children are engaged with
activities that encourage exploration of the meaning and mystery of the
Bible. The information includes Bible stories, Jesus' parables, and
descriptions of Episcopal traditions and holidays.
-
6th through 12th Grade
This youth group and acolyte
guild provides active ministry for teenagers.
- Seasonal Events involving Children
-
Special times of the church year are celebrated with our children, including the
following activities:
-
During Advent, the children present a Christmas Pageant to
the congregation.
-
Every year, the children participate in a Lenten Outreach project
to help others in need.
-
For Children's Sunday in May, the children
actively contribute to the worship service in church.
- We always have a big Welcome back to Sunday School
celebration in September after the summer break.
-
Other events include the Parish Picnic, All Saint's Day
celebration, and the Christmas Bazaar.
See you in Sunday School!
